Title
Jiuzhai Valley
Description
Jiuzhai Valley is located in Zhangzha Town, Jiuzhai Valley County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, in the southern section of the Minshan Mountains in the northwest of Sichuan Province. It is a world natural heritage, a national nature reserve, a national geological park, and a network of world biosphere reserves. A nature reserve whose main purpose is to protect natural scenery ("Official Website of Jiuzhai Valley Scenic Area - About Jiuzhai," n.d.). The rare and beautiful geological calcified lakes and well-protected ecosystem make Jiuzhai Valley have extremely high natural landscape value and scientific research value.
However, it shows that climate warming and intensified sulfur and nitrogen deposition have led to the degradation of the current Jiuzhai Valley tuff landscape. The global warming may also lead to higher temperatures in the region, and local ecosystems will be affected. In addition, Jiuzhai Valley is located in China's seismically active north-south seismic zone, where natural disasters occur frequently. The largest geological disaster in recent years was the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred in August 2017.
