The Ancient City of Pingyao, located in Shanxi Province, China, is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city from the Ming and Qing dynasties (14th-20th centuries). Its impressive city walls, temples, shops, and residential houses showcase the cultural, social, and economic development of Chinese civilization over five centuries. Pingyao's urban fabric and its many intact architectural features provide an outstanding picture of the evolution of Chinese city planning and historic conservation. Digital interpretation of this site can contribute to SDG 11.4, which aims to strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage.
