<dc:title>The location where George Orwell wrote 1984 on Jura Island</dc:title>
<dc:subject>Immovable Culture Heritage</dc:subject>
<dc:description>Barnhill is a farmhouse in the north of the island of Jura in the Scottish Inner Hebrides overlooking the Sound of Jura. It stands on the site of a larger 15th-century settlement, Cnoc an t-Sabhail; the English name Barnhill has been in use since the early twentieth century. The house was rented by the essayist and novelist George Orwell, who lived there intermittently from 1946 until January 1949. He completed his final novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, at Barnhill.</dc:description>

<item_type_metadata:notes>The digital preservation of George Orwell’s residence on Jura Island aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). By creating virtual exhibits and interactive courses, this project provides valuable learning resources for students and educators, deepening their understanding of Orwell’s work, especially 1984, and its impact on social justice, freedom, and human rights. Additionally, it fosters public discussions on these themes, contributing to a broader dialogue on peace, justice, and the importance of protecting individual rights in modern society.</item_type_metadata:notes>
