Documentation can be found at http://github/MetsExport/ Robben Island African Penguin Colony Immovable Culture Heritage Robben Island is an important site for the African Penguin, and is home to the third largest breeding colony of the species. In the 1600s, Dutch colonial settlers released rabbits on the island for food for any passing sailors. Unfortunately, the rabbit population destroyed the island's vegetation and so destroying the penguin breeding locations. This led to the complete decimation of the penguin population with none left by the 1800s.
