Description

Vovnushki (from ingush “place of defense towers”) is one of the most famous and notable complexes of medieval Ingush defense towers. The complex consists of three defense towers standing on two rocks. It is supposed that there used to be a bridge between the towers different rocks. Each tower has four floors, two narrow loopholes and a flat roof. The towers are typical examples of the architecture of the region. The earliest information we have about Vovnushki dates back to the XVIII century. It is unknown when the complex was built. Judging by the architecture typical to late Middle Ages historians assume that is was built either in XVII or XVIII. In 2008, the complex was voted as one of the top 7 marvels of Russia. It is a popular site for local tourists.
