<dc:title>Lairig Leacach Bothy</dc:title>
<dc:description>Though they are not a single piece of heritage, bothies represent a broader historical and cultural phenomenon in the United Kingdom, especially Northern England and Scotland. A bothy is a rudimentary shelter in the wilderness which is typically only accessible on foot. Many bothies originally served as shelters for gamekeepers and estate workers, though now they are most commonly used recreationally by hikers. Underpinning the use of bothies is the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which set legal standards for the long running tradition of free access to privately owned land in Scotland. The largest concentration of bothies can be found in the Scottish Highlands.
