The Building was later altered by Ernst Lohrmann who added the four small domes around the edge and 12 statues to the roof. The building and crypt are popular tourist destinations and were visited by half a million people in 2018. It is however not a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The design of the cathedral is based upon a Greek Cross and the ends are supported by six Corinthian columns. 12 zinc apostles adorn the edge of the roof and are the largest unified collections of zinc statues in the world.
