Among 50,000 paintings which have been found so far, the earliest one can be dated back to 10,000 years ago. The long history and rich content made it a valuable source for historical study. However, due to vandalism, natural erosion and a lack of continued protection, a lot of paintings are in peril. The preservation of Yinshan Rock Carving started in the 1980s and it was selected as one of the national heritage sites in 2006. However, most protection measures are still very traditional and not effective. So far, the government has been preserving the physical paintings by setting up monuments, CCTV and fences. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially the Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular.
