What is great barrier reef?

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest and longest coral reef complex located off the northeast coast of Australia in the South Pacific Ocean, stretching for a total of about 2,600 kilometres, with a maximum width of 161 kilometres. There are about 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands of various sizes spread over an area of about 344,400 square kilometres.

The Great Fortress has long been familiar and used by the citizens of Australian land and the Torres Strait, and is an important part of the culture and spirit of the local groups. A very popular destination for tourists, especially in the Whitsundays and Cairns regions.
