Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since the 15th century. The city currently consists of two parts, an old town dominated by a medieval fortress style and a city developed from the 18th century with a neoclassical form, which had a wide-ranging influence on European urban architecture. There are many important buildings in both historic districts, whose styles are both harmonious and contrasting, giving the city its unique charm.
