Investigation of termite damage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Termites are omnivorous insects that feed on a variety of materials including wood. When wood is attacked, it has the property of damaging the outer layer (sapwood) of the trunk, leaving behind the bark. Termites generally tend to attack soft wood more than hard wood, and horizontal or longitudinal grating holes are observed. By closely observing these attacking characteristics, we check and detect the special traces of termites that are expressed on the outside of the wood member.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Investigation of termite habitat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microwave detection method :<\/strong> Microwave detection equipment detects the movement of insects present inside the wood and can confirm the presence or absence of actual harmful insects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Endoscopic investigation :<\/strong> If a hole (ingestion mark) of 1 cm or more is found on the outside of the member, use an endoscope to visually check the activity of termites living inside the neck member.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Wood moisture content measurement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case of termites, they tend to prefer damp wood more than building materials, and in the case of wood damaged by termites, the moisture content tends to increase relatively, so the moisture content of column members is investigated and analyzed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Termite detection <\/strong>Dog<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the method of eradicating termites using dogs, when a detection dog detects the habitat of termites with its sense of smell, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage research team checks the habitat with vibration detectors and performs insect control work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The detection dog responds to the smell of termite secretions and accurately conveys the result to the handler, thereby repeatedly conducting training to determine whether termites are inhabited. Compared to the conventional method of detecting termites using wooden specimens, which required a detection period of 3 to 6 months, the use of termite detection dogs has the advantage of being able to ‘immediately detect’ the damage caused by termites. Termites do not like light and damage wooden members mainly along poles in the ground.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
