Threats Facing the Pyramids

Egyptian pyramids could be lost to climate change

  • Impact of Climate Change: Extreme weather events caused by climate change, such as heavy rainfall and high temperatures, may accelerate the erosion and damage of the pyramid structures.
  • Pollution and Air Contamination: Industrial emissions and vehicle exhaust in the surrounding area may lead to pollution on the surface of the pyramids, accelerating their aging and erosion.
  • Tourism Pressure: The influx of large numbers of tourists may exert pressure on the structure of the pyramids, accelerating their wear and tear.
  • Illegal Trafficking and Theft: Due to their long history, the pyramids may become targets of illegal trafficking and theft, leading to the loss and destruction of artifacts.

What We Should Do as Visitors:

  • As visitors, we have a responsibility to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the pyramids. Here’s what we can do:
  • Respect Regulations: Follow the rules and guidelines for pyramid tourism, including refraining from writing on the pyramids or climbing them.
  • Keep it Clean: Avoid littering and keep the surrounding environment of the pyramids clean.
  • Respect History: Refrain from carving or graffitiing on the pyramids, and avoid damaging the pyramid structures and artifacts.
  • Support Sustainable Tourism: Choose environmentally friendly modes of travel, such as walking or biking, to reduce the environmental impact on the pyramids.
  • Educate Others: Share correct knowledge and behavior guidelines for pyramid protection with others, encouraging everyone to protect this precious cultural heritage.
