- Heritage and History
Mount Jiuhua’s sacredness dates back to the 8th century, when Korean monk Kim Qiaoque arrived and was believed to be a reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha (地藏菩萨). The mountain became a center of Buddhist devotion and now houses 99 temples across forested slopes and mist-covered peaks.
