The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a state corporation and it manages all the regional museums, sites and monuments in Kenya. It is established by an Act of Parliament, the Museums and natural heritage. The purpose of NMK is to enhancing knowledge, appreciation, respect and sustainable utilization of these resources for the benefit of Kenya and the world, for now, and posterity.

NMK manages not only museums but also sites, monuments of national and international importance alongside priceless collections of Kenya’s living culture and natural heritage. You can get an overview of Kenya’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites by the Storyboard offered by Google Art & Culture.

Nairobi National Museum is located on Museum Hill together with the headquarters of NMK. Nairobi National Museum aims to interpret Kenya’s rich heritage and offers a one-stop for visitors to sample the country’s rich heritage both for education and leisure.

Kenya Lake System

The Kenya Lake System, which is located in the Great Rift Valley, covers three of Africa’s most spectacular lakes. The gross area is about 320 km2. It has a complicated and changeable landform, steaming and hot spring, and massive flocks of flamingos for its inhabitants.

Takwa ruins

Takwa Ruins Mosque

Located on the southeastern corner of Manda Island Lamu District in Coast province, Takwa ruins are the remains of a thriving 15th and 16th-century Swahili trading town before it was abandoned in the seventeenth century. It is important because of its period of occupation and its dense settlement and its relatively well-preserved remains.
