Description
Located in Normandy, France, Mont-Saint-Michel is a former Gothic-style Benedictine abbey, and is thus an important site of medieval Christianity, as well as being famous for its unique aesthetic. Since the abbey was abolished in 1789, in 1863, Mont-Saint-Michel was turned into a prison. Despite the destruction of the early parts of the church, it has maintained a perfect combination of natural beauty and human history through centuries of constant maintenance, and is therefore considered one of the most fascinating sites in France. Over three million visitors come to visit each year to share its history and marvel at the majesty and wonder of this resort.
