Qingcheng Mountain, the main scenic spot of the World Cultural Heritage Qingcheng Mountain – Dujiangyan, a key cultural relic protection unit of China, a key scenic spot of the Chinese family, and a 5A tourist attraction of the Chinese family. Qingcheng Mountain is located in the southwest of Dujiangyan City, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, 68 km east of Chengdu City, in the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project 10 km southwest. The scenic area covers an area of 200 square kilometres, and the highest peak, Laojunge, is 1,260 metres above sea level. Verdant trees surround the mountain, always green in all seasons, and the peaks are like the outline of a city, hence the name Qingcheng Mountain. The mountain is known for its beauty and cleanliness, with thousands of steps and winding paths. Inside and outside the scenic area, the Tian Shi Cave and the Yuan Ming Palace are special features of Qingcheng Mountain.

With climate change, the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events (e.g. floods, droughts, typhoons, etc.) are likely to increase in the Qingcheng Mountain region. These extreme events have serious impacts on the natural environment and human activities in the mountains, such as landslides, mudslides and other disasters.

Cultural Heritage
Qingcheng Mountain has a long history. It is said that during the reign of Emperor Xuan Yuan, there was Ning Feng Zi who lived in Qingcheng Mountain and taught the Emperor the art of “dragon among the winds and clouds”, and the Emperor built an altar to worship him as the “five mountain masters”. In ancient times, Qingcheng Mountain, together with Wudang Mountain in Hubei, Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi, Qi Yun Mountain in Anhui and Jingfu Mountain in Shaanxi, were known as the Five Great Immortal Mountains and were dedicated to the Five Great Mountains, namely Ning Feng Zhen Jun, Zhen Wu Dang Mo Da Di, Haotian Yu Huang God, the Heavenly Sovereign of Demonic Protection and Guang Yuan Pu Du Heavenly Sovereign.

Global warming has led to an increase in temperature in the Qingcheng Mountain region year on year. This may affect the ecological balance of the mountains, leading to changes in the distribution of plants and animals, which in turn affect the entire ecosystem.

Cultural Heritage
Dujiangyan, located west of the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province, is situated on the Min River in the western part of the Chengdu Plain. It is a huge engineering system consisting of the head junction (Yuzui, Feishayan and Baobengkou), irrigation channels at various levels, various engineering buildings and small, medium and large reservoirs and ponds, etc. The head of the canal covers an area of more than 200 mu. It is responsible for the irrigation of more than 11.3 million mu of farmland in 7 cities (land) and 40 counties (cities and districts) in the central and western regions of the Sichuan basin, water supply for many key enterprises and urban life in Chengdu, as well as flood control, power generation, water bleaching, aquaculture, breeding, forestry and fruit, tourism, environmental protection and many other objectives of comprehensive services, and is an irreplaceable water conservancy infrastructure for the development of the national economy of Sichuan Province.

Changing precipitation patterns: Climate change may alter precipitation patterns in the Dujiangyan area, causing changes in the amount and distribution of precipitation. This may cause the water supply to Dujiangyan to become unstable and affect its normal operation.
